This is, perhaps, the best picture taken in the history of the world. Mary Kate's expression is just so great: the outward calm, the inward terror. She looks as if she's going to jump out of her own skin if that old French roué type guy doesn't get his wrinkled lips off her elfin cheek.

Confession: I once saw MK at the Whole Foods in Chelsea. It was a couple years ago and she came in with another girl and a bodyguard. The store was crowded and it was obvious she was panicking but was doing her best to cope. I let her catch me staring to see if she'd tip over into full-scale freak-out. She did. She dropped the tiny apple she was fondling and ran out the door. I felt bad afterward. Not really bad, but a little bad.

Forever Young Adult

This review from @4everYA is pretty favorable, though not all-the-way favorable. Actually, parts of it are sort insulting. And yet, I'm into it. Maybe because it made me laugh. Also, I like the writer's casting ideas.

Two Becomes One

A photo was recently sent to me by a reader, Cyntia. Her daughter, Lily--well chosen, Cyntia--is a dead ringer for Alice.

The resemblance is striking, right? I mean, positively UNCANNY. Extra uncanny when you consider that The Innocents is book about (among other things) doppelgängers.

Maybe now I'll finally be able to get David Lynch to return my calls.
